Your mother is a great person to send flowers to. Although many people choose to send flowers to Mom on Mother’s Day, there’s really never a bad time to send your mother flowers. A surprise gift of flowers can dramatically improve Mom’s mood. Also, you can send flowers to your mother in many different varieties and styles, as moms seem to enjoy flowers of all kinds.

A common misconception is that roses are the best flowers to send to Mom on Mother’s Day. There’s no law that says you can only send flowers to Mom if they’re roses. In fact, roses are often very expensive around Mother’s Day, second only to the cost of roses around Valentine’s Day. If you want to save money, send flowers that are a bit out of the ordinary.

As Mother’s Day is in late Spring (or early Summer) in the Northern Hemisphere, there are a wide variety of flowers in season available. If you want to send flowers to Mom while still maintaining a healthy budget, try sending jonquils or ask your florist if they have wildflower arrangements. Usually, Mom will be excited that you thought to send flowers her way regardless of what type of flower you select. If you know your mother’s favorite color, or her favorite flower, as your florist if it’s an option to send flowers that match her tastes.

Regardless of what type, if you send flowers on Mother’s Day, plan ahead. Mother’s Day is a very busy time for florists, so try to place your order a few weeks in advance. It is often a good idea to send flowers with a nice card telling Mom why you’re so appreciative of her. If you have the flowers delivered, many florists have an option to send flowers with the card. If you’re dropping off the flowers yourself, you can just go and choose your own card from the store.

But once again, remember that you can send flowers to Mom any time of the year. You can even send flowers to her on Christmas and Easter. Most moms are delighted to receive a nice poinsettia arrangement around Holiday time. You can even send flowers her way on Valentine’s Day too, if you so choose. When Should You Send Flowers?

Believe it or not, there are rules of etiquette as to when it’s acceptable to send flowers. You might think that any special occasion is a good time to send flowers, but this is not always the case. Also, when you send flowers, you want to make sure that the flowers you’ve purchased are appropriate for the situation.

In truth, it is perfectly fine to send flowers for most holidays. Valentine’s Day instantly comes to mind, but don’t forget that there are plenty of other great opportunities. Christmas, Easter, Mother’s Day, and birthdays are all great times to send flowers. Some florists offer patriotic arrangements if you wanted to send flowers on Memorial Day or Independence Day. Birthdays, weddings and funerals can all be appropriate times to send flowers. Just keep in mind that there’s never a time that you’re required to send flowers as opposed to other gifts. Flowers can also augment other gifts if you’d like to send flowers with a card, or another present.

If you do plan to send flowers, make sure they’re appropriate for the occasion. Generally speaking, exclusively red flowers are only appropriate to send to romantic interests. This is especially the case for roses. You can certainly give the wrong impression if you decide to send flowers to your boss to suck up for a promotion and you give her a dozen red roses. If you want to send flowers to your mom for Mother’s Day, or to your grandma for Grandparents’ Day, white flowers are always a great choice. Also, if you want to send flowers to someone who has recently lost a loved one, you’ll want to avoid bouquets. Most florists have arrangements that are specifically tailored for all sorts of special occasions.

There are other cultural factors to be aware of if you want to send flowers. In many Asian countries, the color white often symbolizes death. For that reason, an all-white flower assortment, even for a funeral, can be considered offensive. Likewise, if you send flowers to a Western funeral, it is considered bad taste to select black flowers. In general, Muslims do not send flowers for funerals, so you are not obligated to do so if a Muslim friend has a death in the family. Given gender roles, it is usually customary to send flowers to females instead of males. This is not always the case, but it can be a good rule to follow.
